They will not mention characters like Marceline (or LSP or Susan). They compete directly for "better character" (but really "best romantic interest for Finn"). This annoys me. I just saw the last episode I hadn't seen which was Season 1's 'His Hero'. About two months ago I watched the last episode of Teen titans I hadn't seen which was 'Lightspeed'.
